Depression is the result of the continued and prolonged ‘de-pressing’ or ‘pushing down’ of unwanted, negative emotions. This may also be referred to as the denial of one’s true emotions.
When the brain releases the hormones that correlate to Depression (the most common being Serotonin), the possibility for chemical imbalance within the body and mind is introduced – such a sustained release, without effective dissolution, cannot not have a physiological impact.
This explains why it is possible to physically feel the effects of Depression and for the condition to feel just as physical as it is emotional or mental.
Factors that Contribute to Depression
Many schools of thought believe that unhealthy diet, lifestyle habits, environment and genetics are the main causes of Depression. Whilst these factors may well indeed play a part, as long as any negative emotional undercurrents are not addressed, a lasting resolution, remedy or the achievement of the desired level of health is unlikely.
The surprising truth is that most people at one time or other in their lives will have experienced Depressive symptoms to a greater or lesser degree, although not everyone will have accepted, adopted or acknowledged them as Depression.
The Emotional Component of Depression
Because ineffectively expressed, unwanted, negative emotions usually lie at the root of Depression, it is here where attention needs to be put in order to facilitate a reversal of the symptoms. Without a shadow of a doubt, addressing the emotional component that exists in the mix is key… and this always exists, without exception!
Our extensive research into the emotional causes of Depression has revealed the following as common behaviours and life scenarios:
- A sustained feeling that pressure is building in one or more areas of your life
- The long-term suppression of feelings and the failure to express them when the opportunity arises
- Unconsciously holding on to past hurts and sadness
- Carrying past emotional wounds and scars that have not properly healed
- A feeling of being alone, on your own or separated from those close to you
- Living with dual, sometimes multiple identities, donning a different mask for different scenarios, masks that keep hidden from view the real you
- Feeling a distinct lack of purpose, drive and motivation for anything in particular
- A feeling of being alienated from your true feelings, often not being able to articulate how you actually feel – as if a permanent fog surrounds and accompanies you.
If you can relate to any of these, then it is likely you will experience Depression in your life until these behaviours and, more importantly, their underlying emotional drivers have been addressed.
At THE Clinic we specialise in dissolving the culpable emotions, the effect of which is to both change the behaviours and have the Depression symptoms disappear altogether.
We are able to achieve this mainly as a result of our belief that the symptoms arise as a result of learnt behaviours over time, behaviours which become unconscious in nature.
This, coupled with a bottle-neck in the expression of the energy that accompanies negative emotions or unwanted feelings, means that a ‘stuckness’ emerges which makes progress and lasting, positive change difficult.
Any learnt behaviour can be unlearnt once you know the behaviour in question and the technique for unlearning it – we teach you both after giving you a personally relevant and verifiable experience of the accuracy and simplicity of our approach.
Our starting point – to acknowledge and release the stuckness using non-invasive, eloquent and simple techniques – makes the process of moving beyond Depression and not having it return or remain our differentiating factor in this field of work.
